In a musical atmosphere overwhelmingly dominated by vocalists, a hit recording by an orchestra is no small accomplishment.
Bert Kaempfert's wonderful arrangement of Wonderland by Night, given a full, lush treatment by his orchestra, is creating a sensation throughout the country - its haunting beauty capturing the imagination of both the listeners who nostalgically welcome a reaffirmation of the "big band" sounds they once heard so often, and those too young to know there had ever been a "big band era".
The success of Wonderland By Night, its acceptance by an unprecedentedly wide range of listeners, provides eloquent evidence that the popular orchestra is still a vital, potent musical force, and although its "era" might have come and gone, the big band of today is bigger and better than ever before.
Composer-conductor-arranger Bert Kaempfert was born in Hamburg, Germany. An accomplished instrumentalist (clarinet, saxophone, piano and accordion), he made his professional debut with the well known Hans Busch orchestra on a Danzig radio show. A quiet, serious young man who claims composing as his first love. Mr. Kaempfert has achieved enormous success since organizing his own orchestra.
In this album, Bert Kaempfert and his orchestra play the enchanting Wonderland By Night, plus a collection of other delightul orchestral hits, arranged and interpreted along the same distinctively rich orchestral concept.
